First Place

Casey Fence and Deck

Partner: Advantage Lumber

This client had an old, dilapidated wood deck, was adamant about not going composite, and requested Real Ipe. In order to get full length boards and not have a plethora of unsightly butt joints, we created this herringbone basketweave board pattern and dressed it up with a curved front. She wanted the white rails for that contrasting POP, and we used black round balusters to open up the view of the woods out back. the 6×6 rail post sleeves added a nice compliment as did the steel surface mount rail posts and IPE cocktail rail. framed on Critically treated framing set at 12 inches on center to create a substructure that would last as long as the decking.

Second Place

Hen-House Decks

Partner: CAMO

After removing an old warn wood deck, this customer hired us to build them a new deck that was double the size of the old deck. The customer loves the look of natural wood. So, when I showed her the plans and the quality of the lumber we like to use (#1 Yellow Wood Prime.) She hired us in a heartbeat and trusted our vision to provide here with a space that not only provided great space but a creative inlay/decking change in the middle of the deck to break up the decking. The hog wire rails provided the “Farm Style” this homeowner wanted to give her the county vibe on the deck. All decking and railing was screwed down. All edges were sanded smooth.

Third Place

Fraser Decks and Patio Covers

Partner: Dixieline Lumber & Home Centers

This simple, yet very useful deck and cover was designed for the homeowner to have a private space to practice yoga and exercise. The idea was to give it sort of a tiki hut feel with the rounded posts and the custom designed railings, but to give it a more modern look with the tongue and grooved cedar ceiling and tiled roof. A simple, yet very fun and very cool looking area to hang out and do yoga! There is a bench along the back for relaxing, but plenty of space on the cedar floor to allow for 2 people to do yoga/stretch.
