Working within the existing footprint of a fully finished yard presented a unique design challenge—transforming the space without expanding its boundaries. The solution was a complete reimagining of the structure, integrating a roof, retractable Phantom screens, and a striking two-sided fireplace to create distinct zones for dining, cooking, and relaxation.
A wraparound outdoor kitchen—featuring Blaze appliances—anchors the design, with screens that lower around the kitchen for year-round use. Two custom rail-top bars, each crowned with Fire Garden Tempest torches, create dramatic focal points that bring warmth and movement to the space.
The deck’s structure was modified to elevate one side, improving flow and visual balance. Wing walls were introduced to support the screened areas, and the home’s rear façade was finished with dark Versatex and stone, unifying the overall aesthetic.
Blending transitional lines with rich textures and subtle lighting, this project demonstrates how thoughtful design and structural precision can completely redefine an existing space—without increasing its footprint.

Sometimes the best laid plans don’t always work out, and you adapt. We knew materials had to be transported through the house due to the steep drop-off and lakeside border. Our initial project plan was to remove the decking, railing, tile, and aluminum columns, then wrap the existing support posts and redeck.
We immediately faced a major challenge: The aluminum columns on the 1st to 3rd level deck were empty, lacking necessary support, and the double rim beams were 2’x10’s and sagging.
Turning Challenges Into Quality:
- Upper deck tile and subfloor carefully removed.
- Added additional support posts and replaced beams.
- Installed RainEscape system on the upper deck to keep the space below dry.
- All posts were wrapped with LP SmartSide lap siding and trim, painted brown, with a dry-stacked stone base.
- All decking installed with a three-band picture frame border.
- Hidden fasteners used throughout.
- Glass balusters installed on the upper level for an unobstructed lake view.
- Tiered fascia added throughout each level, enhancing the profile.
- Reconstructed stucco trim to fully conceal new flashing, ensuring a seamless transition between house and deck while maintaining weatherproofing.
Final Result: A beautifully refurbished 1,900 sq. ft. lakeside deck—structurally reinforced and elegantly refinished.

This project transformed a small, outdated space into a modern focal point of the backyard. The existing area featured an aging kitchen, a deteriorating wood pergola, and a bulky knee wall that closed off the yard and obstructed the view from the entrance.
Guided by the home’s modern architecture, the new design introduced a motorized pergola that blends seamlessly with the structure, supported by six slender corner posts that serve as both functional and sculptural elements. Straightening the deck’s corner created a larger, more efficient kitchen layout and space for a generous island with seating.
The horizontal slats of the TV wall echo the home’s clean, modern lines and frame the drink station as a visual centerpiece. Cable railings open the view toward the pond and pool, connecting the deck to the landscape beyond.
One of the greatest challenges was integrating this new space into the existing multi-deck and pool layout. The result is a cohesive, highly functional outdoor kitchen and entertainment area that feels intentional, expansive, and perfectly aligned with the home’s contemporary style.
