First Place
Casey Fence and Deck LLC
Partners: LMT Mercer Group, CAMO Fastener, Decks & Docks Company, Fiberon, FastenMaster
Our Mystic Sky project evolved considerably from its original conception. Client paid a designer but it never had that “WOW FACTOR” they were looking for, they wanted a showpiece. Aside from adding a few thousand low voltage LED lights (maxing out 2-50 watt transformers), adding some custom trim features, a built in bar, and a triple picture frame border, we created a 10ft by 8ft Mystic Sky inlay, though we never revealed the design. We also utilized over sized treated GluLam beams to cut down on support posts and added 16 inch fascia to accommodate the future underdeck drain system. Every detail of the Mystic Sky inay carries symbolic meaning from the cross that blooms into a star, the the radiant spray of the diagonal decking and the triple border diamond with over 1500 lights. Deck was also framed to support a future outdoor kitchen (by others) and features a split staircase with an intermediate and lower landing. The black fascia trim and converted landscape lights enhance the beauty of the outer frame. Upon the big reveal when the clients first saw both the lights and the inlay, they broke down in tears of joy while giving me hugs. Amazing!
Second Place
Rough Ashlar Construction
This project that we took on was fairly outside of our radius but after getting to know the home owner, I was dead set on making their dream become a reality, with only two guys and four weeks of time, we were able to over deliver in a many areas of the deck such as a custom inlay, custom skirts details and very out of the box stair case.
Third Place
Wood Bully
Partner: Owens Corning Lumber
This Farmstead Deck reimagines outdoor living through precise geometry, material harmony, and craftsmanship that honors both heritage and innovation. The centerpiece is a custom chevron-pattern deck with a diamond inlay, perfectly aligned
with the property’s main sightline to the surrounding fields. Each mitre and seam was laid out with millimeter precision, creating a seamless pattern that shifts with the light and leads the eye outward to the horizon.
The structure is built with Owens Corning engineered lumber, ensuring strength and longevity while maintaining a clean, architectural look. The framing supports composite decking chosen for its subtle grain and natural tone, balancing durability with organic warmth.
Every detail was carefully executed—LED strip lighting was recessed into charred barn-wood beams, with all connectors and drivers completely hidden to preserve the deck’s rustic integrity while providing a soft, modern glow at night.
The result is a space that blends contemporary restraint with farmhouse character—modern lines, warm textures, and quiet symmetry. By day it’s open and expansive; by night it becomes a glowing stage for gathering. This project transforms a simple deck into a crafted architectural feature, seamlessly connected to the land and lifestyle it serves.
