Fraser Decks and Patio Covers
Partner: TimberTech
This is a one of a kind deck. Literally. It is the first time anyone has ever attempted what we attempted at this scale! The project is two matching decks and stairs on either side of a new pool. The key feature is that every single board on both decks and stairs are “waterfall” deckboards. Meaning the deckboards run across the deck and then turn 90 degrees to go down the side of the deck. Normally it would be two deckboards mitered at the turns, but ours are all single continuous boards. On the stairs it’s even more dramatic. The boards go up one side, turn 90 degrees and go across the top of the stairs and then turn 90 degrees again to go down the other side. All with single continuous boards. Many builders have done waterfalls with 2-3 boards or maybe a bench. But never two massive decks and full stairs! This was easily the most complicated and difficult deck we have ever built! We also installed custom frameless glass railings on both decks to allow for everyone to see the waterfall features!

This may be the most interesting, stressful and fun project that created new ideas. Original design for this poolscape was a patio, with planning, and permitting approvals we discovered it would exceed the impervious allowance. Now let’s make it a deck and it’s challenge as the grade was changing to avoid adding railings, and the underside would have limited accessibility. Drainage and ventilation will be important but we need a more sustainable material for the framing. What framing material is going to give a long lasting performance, is the questions. Aluminum framing was the idea and after some head scratching we said let’s go for it. With limited use on alternative framing we embarked on the build of a lifetime to create a curved deck out of aluminum framing, even the manufacture was unsure how to do it. Through the teams determination of the main build it now came down to the how to curve the perimeter. We ended up using sheets of thick gauge aluminum to weld and make perfect curves we could template and build forms for on our deck board curves. Ideas, Determination, Dedication, Talent equals Success, now we have a one in a million build!

DOCK & DECK

This project is a full turnkey transformation of a blank backyard into a private resort-level estate. Originally a small patio with severe drainage issues, the space has been completely reimagined into a luxury retreat blending architecture, recreation, and comfort in perfect balance.
The centerpiece is a custom gunite pool and 16 person spa surrounded by more than 3,500 sq. ft. of travertine in terraced elevations with sweeping wrap-around steps extending from the home. A curved retaining wall frames a 750,000 BTU gas fire feature with a reclined stone backrest, while four 40,000 BTU helix torches illuminate each corner of the pool—creating a stunning visual display after dark.
A timber-frame pergola with natural slate roofing, designed to match the residence, serves as a true outdoor living pavilion. It features an Isokern fireplace, Alfresco stainless appliances, tongue-and-groove ceiling, Infratech heaters, and herringbone travertine flooring.
For recreation, a high-school regulation basketball court sits on a structural concrete slab with in-ground goals and custom sport tile surfacing. The project is completed with a full landscape package—including all plantings, irrigation, ground coverings, extensive low-voltage lighting, and a premium in-ground audio system with buried subwoofers—delivering a fully integrated, resort-caliber outdoor environment for day or night enjoyment.
