Railing on a Deck

This coastal build pushed the limits of staging, fabrication, and precision installation. With no machinery access and a steep incline leading to the site, every component steel, glass, porcelain, and framing had to be carried by hand down multiple flights of stairs. Even the largest elements, including 65’+ water-jetted Dekton porcelain counters with mitered edges, were walked in piece by piece and installed with zero margin for error.

To handle the harsh marine environment, we fabricated custom stainless steel railing posts in-house, then epoxy-coated them for maximum corrosion resistance. Multiple railing systems were integrated to serve different structural and visual needs: glass panel rails for uninterrupted ocean views, stainless cable and aluminum rails for durability, and a custom floating stair railing system using precision-cut glass seated into welded stainless brackets.

The main stair run features over 600 linear feet of modern stainless rod railing. Every rod was cut off-site at its exact angle, then field-welded on-site to match the evolving stair geometry no straight sections, no repeating angles, no prefab parts.

This project is the result of advanced metalwork, extreme material handling, multi-trade coordination, and the belief that difficult access shouldn’t limit design only demand better craftsmanship.

There’s railing, and then there’s something really amazing. Over the top, something you don’t see in residential construction. This is an example of what I describe. This all 316 surgical grade stainless steel cable rail system is a top tier product. Meticulously crafted by artisans and perfectly measured and matched to fit like a glove. Regardless of complications, I’ve never seen or installed anything like it. I’m speechless every time I see it. (imagine that) This product is for the client that wants perfection. What makes this project stand out is how the railing became both the artistic statement and the most technically demanding aspect of the build. The homeowners had a specific color and design vision, which required us to go far beyond a standard
install. Each panel was custom-cut, powder-coated to match the desired tone, and then precisely fabricated to fit our railing system section by section. No two panels were identical, and every cutout had to align perfectly with the railing top and bottom rails.

The tropical-inspired pattern captures light in a way that transforms the deck throughout the day casting bold, shifting shadows that create depth and movement. Achieving this required millimeter-level accuracy in both measurement and installation.

Because the panels were manufactured off-site, we had to carefully coordinate design drawings, color matching, and fabrication tolerances to ensure a seamless fit upon arrival. One miscalculation could have thrown off the entire rhythm of the railing.

In the end, the result is striking: a blend of modern craftsmanship and artistic design that feels like an elevated winery terrace sophisticated, warm, and one of a kind. The railing doesn’t just border the deck; it defines the entire experience.
