First Place

Majestic Outdoors

Partner: TimberTech

This may be the most interesting, stressful and fun project that created new ideas. Original design for this poolscape was a patio, with planning, and permitting approvals we discovered it would exceed the impervious allowance. Now let’s make it a deck and it’s challenge as the grade was changing to avoid adding railings, and the underside would have limited accessibility. Drainage and ventilation will be important but we need a more sustainable material for the framing. What framing material is going to give a long lasting performance, is the questions. Aluminum framing was the idea and after some head scratching we said lets go for it. With limited use on alternative framing we embarked on the build of a lifetime to create a curved deck out of aluminum framing, even the manufacture was unsure how to do it. Through the teams determination of the main build it now came down to the how to curve the perimeter. We ended up using sheets of thick gauge aluminum to weld and make perfect curves we could template and build forms for on our deck board curves. Ideas, Determination, Dedication, Talent equals Success, now we have a one in a million build!

Second Place

NJ Decks and Railings

Partners: Tru-Scapes Deck Lighting, Deckorators, Inc., TimberTech, Trex Company Inc., Fortress Building Products

This project began with the removal of a basic, boxy deck and evolved into a flowing, curved layout that mirrors the lines of the nearby pool and patio. Designed for both beauty and functionality, the space features two distinct dining areas and a spacious seating zone, ideal for entertaining.

We installed Trex Lineage decking in Biscayne, laid in a herringbone pattern to add visual interest and texture. To enhance contrast and depth, we trimmed the deck with TimberTech Espresso fascia and risers. The standout feature is the custom curved black aluminum railing, expertly designed and fabricated to follow the deck’s graceful shape. TruScapes post cap and riser lighting add a warm evening glow that highlights the craftsmanship throughout.

Below, the structure is enclosed with clean PVC lattice and trim, including a discreet access gate that maintains both form and function. Set in a neighborhood filled with past clients, this referral-based project is a testament to the trust we’ve built over generations.

“Curvy Elegance” shows how thoughtful design and expert execution can turn an ordinary backyard into an extraordinary outdoor living space.

Third Place

Stone Ridge Decking

Partner: TimberTech

The goal was to reimagine the deck at our celebrity client’s 1960s family cabin—originally built by her grandfather—into a modern, fire-resistant outdoor space that honors its history while elevating its function.

Key Challenges & Solutions

  • Size and Flow: The new deck is larger than the cabin but designed to feel cohesive—an extension of the indoor living space that connects seamlessly to an existing recreation area.
  • Remote Location: Situated eight hours from our home base with no nearby lumber yards, the build required precise logistics, pre-planned deliveries, and efficient on-site coordination.
  • Engineering: Built for heavy snow loads, the structure uses cable bracing to preserve views and is fully free-standing to avoid any load on the cabin.

Design Highlights
A balanced mix of modern and rustic elements complements the surrounding forest. The layout includes an outdoor kitchen, dining area, bar-top seating, a full lighting package and direct access to the recreation area and front entry.

The final reveal of this project brought our client and her mother to tears– the ultimate compliment!
