First Place
Dr. Decks
Partners: AGS Stainless, Mitsubishi Chemical America, CUTEK® North America, TimberTech, Regal ideas Inc., FastenMaster
This work of art used all 35 years of my deck building experience. The home was built on 14″ round wood piles driven to depth and the old deck was also built on the piles. The first of many challenges was that the original builder of the house framed the floor right through the side of the home on to exterior beams and piles. The piles were still usable but showing signs of aging so we made certain to address and to protect the re used beams and piles so they would never see any more moisture. The key to a successful build is in the details.
Using aluminum framing materials proved to be a challenge as there are several curves involved in the feature section of this amazing deck. We had to create new ways to apply our standard methods to a new wave of exterior products to create something amazing that I’ve never seen before- A compound curved, tilt back bench. I used all 25 years of my deck board bending experience to create a one off work of art.
The railing is also mind blowing- A 12′ radius curved stainless top rail!

Wood Bully

Linear Luxury was engineered and built with uncompromising attention to alignment, finish, and function. A black slate–style roof crowns the cabana, concealing integrated lighting, ceiling fans, and a full-zone sound system that extends across the property.
The cabana structure is supported by HSS steel beams and posts welded on-site, then packed with wood and framed to achieve architectural precision while carrying the heavy roof loads and concealed mechanical systems. Three large natural-gas heaters are integrated overhead, allowing year-round use and balanced radiant heat coverage across the seating and kitchen zones.
A signature feature is the dual-purpose fireplace, which passes through the main deck to become a chimney and upper-level fire table—visually linking both entertaining zones through one continuous form. The 4’×8’ Italian porcelain tiles were installed over reinforced concrete pads and spaced with millimeter accuracy so every joint aligns perfectly with the pool coping and surrounding materials.
An outdoor shower, three integrated TVs, and a fully waterproof upper deck that creates a dry under-deck lounge complete the design. Integrating the steel structure, heating, lighting, and drainage within tight tolerances demanded absolute precision—resulting in a space that embodies structural integrity and modern luxury.
Third Place
Deckscapes of Virginia LLC
Partner: Trex Company Inc.
This project transformed an aging multi-level deck into a cohesive, all-season outdoor living environment centered around a new porch and integrated hardscape. The design blends high-performance materials with modern functionality, featuring a fully enclosed porch with retractable vinyl windows and door, a painted fir ceiling, and comprehensive electrical and lighting systems. The porch opens to an adjoining deck with curved steps and an underdeck drainage system, creating a seamless connection between spaces. Custom recessed-panel storage is integrated beneath the porch for both form and function, while the stairs transition gracefully to a Unilock Beacon Hill patio framed by masonry seat walls and columns. Technology enhancements, including Bromic heaters and an integrated golf simulator below the deck, extend usability and comfort throughout the year. The result is a refined, contemporary outdoor retreat that unites durability, performance, and craftsmanship—transforming the space into a versatile environment designed for relaxation, entertainment, and timeless appeal.
