Neighbors React to Deck Collapse That Injured Six People in Antioch

From a next-door neighbor’s property, you can see the aftermath of a deck that partially collapsed Saturday night and sent six people to the hospital. The deck, which stood more than 10 feet high, collapsed during a house party in Antioch on Pippen Drive. Neighbor Sakawa Bakoyema remembers hearing the loud crash as she washed dishes and kept an eye on her 2-year-old daughter.

NAHB Wants More Women To Join Construction Workforce

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) is urging Congress to work on legislation that would result in more women entering the residential construction industry and overall workforce. Testifying on behalf of NAHB before the House Ways and Means Committee on June 15, NAHB First Vice Chairman Alicia Huey, a custom home builder, remodeler and developer from Birmingham, Ala., told lawmakers that increasing female participation in the construction trades is one key to solving the industry’s labor shortages.
