Over 100 Awards Presented to Outdoor Living Professionals Across North America

[QUAKERTOWN, PA, November 20, 2019] — The North American Deck and Railing Association (NADRA) recognizes and promotes excellence in the outdoor living & decking industry. Each year, the national organization honors outstanding deck & dock projects in the industry at a prestigious awards presentation & celebration. This year, the 10th annual awards was held on November 7th, 2019 at Copper & Kings Distillery in Louisville, KY.

NADRA’s National Deck Competition draws entries from professionals of all levels and categories, from across North America (and beyond). Entries have increased year after year. The 2019 competition saw a 65% increase over last year. The rest of the evening was dedicated to these individuals.
Bobby Parks of BP Consulting & Design, LLC, Master of Ceremony and long-time NADRA member states, “It was an incredible night, to have a gathering of some of the most gifted people in this industry. Those that don’t operate in this arena might not realize each project is a work of art created from a vision & raw material. It’s a vision not transferred from the mind’s eye to canvas, but an actual functional delivery on someone’s residence or property. It requires gifted visionaries that possess the abilities to market & sell, consult & design, organize & build, AND have the ability to coordinate all the trades & aspects involved to deliver the works of art you see in the winning projects. A foundation of extreme quality is a given.” Bobby continues, “This event is a gathering of all-stars, and are, without a doubt, some of the best in the industry.”
Winners from over 20 categories were announced and presented with a unique plaque and certificate which included images from their winning entry.
Judging thousands of images, videos and project descriptions was an enormous feat. This was accomplished by a total of 6 Judges, in which the association requested they keep anonymity until the night of the awards. The panel of judges included:

  • Shawn Miller, Past NADRA President, deck designer & consultant
  • Glenn Mathewson, NADRA Technical Advisor
  • Patrick Adams, President & Publisher of 526 Media Group, Inc.
  • Dave Kogan, Director of Marketing & Business Development, The American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI)
  • James Anderson, Senior Editor, LBM Journal
  • Bobby Parks, BP Consulting & Design, LLC

Judging is based on criteria such as: use of space, innovation, degree of difficulty and evidence of craftsmanship, just to name a few.
The evening was streamed live on the Associations Facebook page. NADRA Members Jon & Amy Witt from WWG Design & Build watched from Fenelon Falls, Ontario. “It was pretty cool to watch from the comfort of our living room. I was texting friends who were there as we saw them go by the camera, which was fun. It wasn’t the same as being there, but certainly a close second. The best part was being able to share the surprising win with our kids.” Three members were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the association. This year, The American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) was recognized for their dedication & commitment to deck safety awareness, through education & certification of hundreds of inspectors.  Andrew Pantelides, Vice President of Marketing & Business Development at Regal ideas, Inc. took home an industry recognition award. Andrew was awarded for his dedication & commitment to growing the association and his unparalleled support of NADRA and all of its programs.  The Terry award is the association’s highest award honored to one member of NADRA. Terry Dempsey was instrumental in guiding NADRA during its formative years. Beginning in 2008, NADRA Headquarters chose one member to honor for their superior contributions to the Association and industry at large. This year, Bobby Parks was the recipient of the Terry Award. Mr. Parks exemplifies humility, honor, integrity and  loyalty. His involvement and dedication to the association and industry is exemplary.

The Maendel brothers were in attendance from Manitoba, Canada! Joel Maendel, Maendecks stated “It was our first year attending the NADRA awards ceremony. For us the whole experience was truly inspiring & we believe this event will help us strive to become even better at what we do. NADRARocks!”
