Richardson, TX – February 2010 | With increased focus on structural testing in the railing industry, Fortress Iron™ has taken the initiative to test its product beyond what is required for most railing codes to ensure that its users are safe and have a peace of mind as they enjoy their outdoor living space.

Fortress Classic Railing Panels were successfully tested by ATI (Architectural Testing) in accordance with AC 273 and Fortress Railing Balusters were also tested by ATI in accordance with the 2006 International Building Code (IBC) and 2006 International Residential Code (IRC).

The International Code Council (ICC) is dedicated to building safety as well as developing codes and standards used to construct residential and commercial buildings. Its mission is to provide the highest quality codes, standards, products and services for all concerned with the safety and performance of the built environment. The AC 273 was developed and released by the ICC regarding metal railing systems upon which they must adhere, meet and or exceed.

“The significance of Fortress Classic Railing meeting or exceeding AC 273 and Fortress Railing Balusters meeting or exceeding the 2006 IBC and 2006 IRC”, said Erik Flick, Railing Division Manager of Fortress Iron™, “is that this separates Fortress Iron™ from any other metal railing company of which we are currently aware.”

With Fortress Iron’s™ expansion into the Canadian market, Fortress Iron™ has identified that the Ontario Province holds the most stringent performance requirements. Ontario is known as the leading force for building codes throughout Canada, therefore, making it clear that it was the highest standard of which Fortress Railing Products can adhere.

An Ontario-based engineering firm independently tested Fortress Classic Railing and Fortress Railing Balusters against strength requirements of the 2006 Ontario Building Code (OBC) and the 2005 National Building Code of Canada (NBCC) and both product categories were successfully tested in accordance with these codes. In addition, Fortress Classic Railing Panels have not only been approved for residential use but also for commercial use.

“Fortress Iron™ is very committed to maintaining code testing requirements for our products”, continues Mr. Flick, “and as requirements increase, we encourage our customers to have confirmed test results to ensure that the railing products they use meet or exceed relevant codes.”
