Griffin, GA – May 15, 2010 | Osmose, Inc., the premier supplier of wood preservative technologies, has earned GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certification for their Hi-bor® wood preservative technology from the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI).

GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certification indicates that a product has undergone rigorous testing and has met stringent standards for low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. Products certified to these criteria are suitable for use in schools, offices, and other sensitive environments. Certified products are listed in the free online GREENGUARD Product Guide which is a valuable tool for architects, designers, product specifiers, and purchasing organizations that want to locate, specify, and purchase low-emitting products for indoor environments. “By achieving GREENGUARD Certification for their Hi-bor preservative technology, Osmose demonstrates to architects, specifiers, builders and contractors their dedication to improving indoor air quality and providing low-emitting VOC products,” said Henning Bloech, Executive Director of GEI.

The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute is an industry independent, third-party not-for-profit organization that oversees the GREENGUARD Certification programs. The mission of the institute is to protect human health and quality of life through programs that reduce people’s chemical exposure and improve indoor air quality. GEI is an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) authorized standards developer and an ISO/IEC Guide 65:1996 accredited organization.

The Hi-bor name is the most recognized brand of borate treated wood in Hawaii, protecting wood frame buildings against fungal decay and termite attack for over 17 years. Wood products treated with the Hi-bor borate preservative technology are designed to be used in above ground weather protected structural framing in residential and commercial projects, such as residential dwellings, industrial buildings, or any application requiring wood protected against termites, carpenter ants, and fungal decay, including dry rot. Hi-bor borate pressure treated lumber and plywood is recommended for sill plate, joists, studs, roof trusses, blocking, rafter, beams, sheathing, flooring, and other framing applications. Hi-bor pressure treated lumber can also be used for fascia and trim, when properly protected from the weather.
